S1D Sailing Clinics, Annapolis
Coached at Sail1Design's new private venue on the Magothy River, just outside Annapolis, this clinic is all about high school/collegiate-style sailing. Intensive focus will be on improving boat handling, speed, and dinghy sailing techniques used by the top sailors in the country. The one-day clinics assess each sailors strengths and weaknesses with "dryland" discussion, on-the-water drills, coaching and sailing, and video to illustrate points and to allow the sailor to self-analyze. Video clips taken during the clinic will be made available on disk to each participant.

Testimonials
"I was impressed with the detail and insight reflected in the post-regatta written report. The report alone was worth the fee. It reinforced lessons from the regatta, and included constructive next steps for improvement."

Tom Sitzmann is the head coach of the nationally recognized Severn School Sailing Team. In just his third year with the program, Severn School won the Mallory Trophy, US High Schol Sailing's National Championship. Leading up to this win, a first for any MASSA school, Severn School won both the Mid-Atlantic Team Racing and Dinghy Championships, and finished 3rd overall at the HS Dinghy Sailing Nationals. Sitzmann came to Severn after working as the head coach for the Bowdoin College intercollegiate dinghy sailing team in 1999-2005, where he led the Polar Bears to new heights in team racing, dinghy and women's sailing. Before Bowdoin, Sitzmann coached sailing at the US Naval Academy and taught US naval history. While in Maine he also started his own business, a Quantum Sail Design Group Sail Loft, "Quantum Northeast".
Tom also was an assistant coach for the Tufts sailing team. In 1993, Sitzmann returned to the Belmont Hill School -- where he graduated in 1987 -- to coach their sailing program, helping the team qualify for both dinghy and single-handed nationals.
A 1991 graduate of Tufts University, Sitzmann was a member of both the sailing and hockey teams for the Jumbos. He was honored as the most valuable player of the hockey team his junior year and was named a captain for his senior campaign. After college he sailed Lasers and J/24s in the New England circuit, winning the Laser New England District Championship in 1995 and the J/24 Northeast Regional Championship in 1998, and finishing in the top 3 in both the J/24 Midwinter's and East Coast Championships.
